Carcassonne End

Carcassonne End

As we were playing with practically all the expansions the game took I think over 90 minutes to complete, not only because of the number of tiles, but because of the extra decisions needed when placing them. Towards the end of the game players concentrated on getting majorities in the farms and meeples in the market ready to influence the scoring at the end. Once again we had a disussion as to how the farms are actually scored, we decided that if a completed city is in more than one field it scores in both. I know there are different ways of intepreting this rule but that’s how we played it. One huge city (top centre of pic) garnered a lot of points for Richard and Steve I think it was. And Neil cleared up a lot of points scoring farms.

Final Scores (*denotes starting player)
Richard (grey) 139, Neil (black) 127, *Natalie (red) 91, Colin (yellow) 64, Garry (green) 56

Game Rating (0-10)
Colin 7.5

We're playing Carcassonne? that'll be a nice gentle evening then. Wrong. We played Extreme Carcassonne. We played it with all the expansions (with the exception of King and Scout). To be perfectly honest it was a nightmare, it turned a nice well thought out family game into a sprawling mess.

It was like a xmas turkey dinner with all the trimmings, nothing wrong with any of the individual ingredients (if you like sprouts that is) but when you put them all together, just once a year, you feel completely bloated by the end of the meal.

So I didn't like it much, but it had to be done. And I lost as well!

Yeah. It was my choice to play Carcassonne with the Count expansion. I had thought that we could stick to the base set and river along with the Count and maybe Inns and Cathedrals, but some of the others wanted to play with all of the expansions...

Bit of a mammoth game - but as Garry said playing all the expansion had to be done (Though we didn't include King & Scout - Maybe next time?? ... Arrggg .... do I hear screams from the back?).

Quite frankly normally at end of game of Carcassonne before the final scoring is totally I reckon I have some idea of who has won - but in this case there were some many different points to take account of it came as a bit of surpoise that the winner was me.

Garry completing my castle in the centre of the baord whilst the Count was preventing more dobbers from being added (he was trying to keep his differential down against the other players) probably made the winning difference.

I did however enjoy the options that the Count gave as regards the ablity to add dobbers to a structure (Road,Castle,Field & Cloisters) as it is completed - think this adds alot to the game and is an excellent expansion.
